*Though it may be stressful to have your  hair not at the desired length yet but trust me with a few healthy hair tips you will swinging your dreads in no time.*

So how to maintain your dreads you may be asking well let me tell you how:

Step 1: Keeping The Scalp Moisturized

  • Jamaican Mango & Lime Loc Gro
Is used when people first start growing their dreads and need to add sheen and shine to their hair. It smells really great and really amazing to use.

  • Cantu Moisturizer
This product is used for hair that is not awaiting the loc stage but for locs and natural unlocked hair. Cantu is a great product to use (As well as all their other products)

  • Hairbonics All Natural Locs and Braid Spray

Hairbonics is used specifically for dreads and braids. So if you haven't trusted a word I said which you should then at least trust Hairbonics.

Once you've got the scalp and shine part down packed it's time to move onto the shampooing and conditioning.

Step 2: Know Your Shampoo

  • Jamaican Mango & Lime
You'll be surprised that just like the conditioner of Jamaican Mango & Lime Loc Gro that YES you've guessed it the shampoo works to do just the exact same thing.

  • Dread Head HQ
Dread Head HQ is one of those products where if you have dreads then you should or should've already owned, used, and loved this product. I t has an attractive smell and you will love how it grooms and cleans the dreads. Whether it's just a few pieces of dandruff to a scalp that reminds you of Frosted Flakes Dread Head HQ is the best friend in the hair bag.

  • Cantu can be used as well or even some of the ones you may already be using.

Number 1 Rule To Great, Soft, Healthy Hair Is...................................................................

Stay away (and I do mean far away) from products that contain Sulfate. Sulfate is a chemical that will dry your hair out whether your growing dreads or not. Absolutely stay away from the sulfate. If you spend 20 mins looking for shampoo and conditioner because your reading the labels then you care more about your hair than anyone who grabs and goes.

Starting Dreadlocks With Care!

When you first start dreads you need to realize a few things that must be done now that you've decided to start this journey.

1. This is going to take time so Be Patient!
(Stressing the word Patient)

2. Take care of your dreads even when they aren't down your back yet.

3.Once you get the hang of taking care of them then you will be able to work magic in your sleep.

NOW THAT YOU ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE MAIN DO'S OF DREADING LETS GET STARTED........

When starting dreads your going to want to do what is called "backcombing" or just twist with a rat tail comb. (Which is more like moving a comb up and down a small section of hair in order to give it a frizzier effect.

*Please ensure that hair is washed and clean. Also be sure that the hair is completely dry when you back comb it.*
DREAD LOCK STARTING 1: Start by creating a small 1-2'' box in you hair. Smaller sections make thinner dreads. Once you have your sections place a rubber band near the root of the hair in order to hold the section into place.
(Most people start off with gel twists, but I prefer to start off with backcombing because there's more of a dread look rather than just long sticky swirls.)
Dreads wax (Without petroleum) should be applied to the dread and then a rubber band can be placed on the end of the dread to secure. *Dread wax will connect stubborn loose hairs while the hair dreads much faster*
Once the dreads have been in for some time the rubber bands can begin to be taken out.

With this style you can ensure that the maturity of you dreads will come a lot faster about 2-5 months depending on hair type.

DREAD LOCK STARTING 2: As you section your hair you can secure each section with a rubber band. When the whole head is sectioned off with the rubber band twist each section clockwise using a comb to snag the hair at the ends and twist. Don't place the rubber bands on to tight but so they are snug. (Which favors gel twists)

Great dread wax includes Dread Head HQ which I recommend since it's extremely well with holding together dreads and adding shine.
If hair is thin then try using Knatty Dread which is like a cream used to start and hold onto new form dreads.

This concludes my first lesson on Dreads and how to start dreads.

First Blog from Shorttebri

My very first blog!

So first I start off by introducing myself as Bri, currently in college and giving this blog thing a try.

So why have started to write a blog? Is that the question that you ask, well lucky for you I am going to explain how it all came to be. It all started when I walked into the dining hall and my friend Chase and I decided to sit in the back. Soon after, some girls come to sit at the exact same table as we did. I guess I told a joke that amused one of them. (Now I've been known to have a sense of humor but I guess at the moment I realized damn I must be really funny.) From that day I only seen her once after that and we of course were at another dining hall.

But on this particular night I needed to go to CVS so after walking for about 3 mins max. I seen her in the CVS but I didn't notice that it was her until I said excuse me and she turned to look at me. Now I noticed that she had two hair supply bottles in her hand (immediately I said I hope she's not using the white bottle for her hair.). After having a mini hair panic attack. She asked for my advice on which one to buy. I have so much experience doing hair (dreads). After telling her which products to use and what to do after each application she told me that maybe I should talk to the African American center on campus about talking to those with dreads and talking about dreads. I thought maybe I should, (but then again who would come?).

She brought up starting a blog or even a Youtube channel and well the channel has come across my mind for the longest time. After she told me that she would support me I thought well I know a lot of people and maybe my friends would support me. We exchanged numbers and went our separate ways and I thought more about how I would love to start a channel and a blog based on hair and the fun things I do everyday. Thanks to Vicky D she has inspired to get up and actually start the channel and the blog that I should've started before. Thanks Vicky D talk to you soon!

For now on I will be blogging about dreads and how to take care of them in careful and easy ways.
